191 Buffalo Central Terminal

Is the Buffalo Central Terminal Haunted?

It’s one of the most impressive train stations ever built in America, and for most of its life, it’s been standing completely empty. This episode, Rebecca tracks down the spirits who never left Buffalo’s Central Terminal, while Pat digs into how a building this grand ended up abandoned for over forty years. You decide: genuine haunting, or entirely senseless talk?

The History

Buffalo Central Terminal opened in 1929 as a $14 million, seventeen-story Art Deco showpiece built to move 10,000 passengers a day — then the stock market crashed four months later, and it never recovered. Passenger rail decline, a disastrous Penn Central merger, and white flight from the surrounding neighborhood led Amtrak to close the terminal for good in 1979. It sat empty and exposed for decades until preservationists began raising real money in the 2020s — it’s under active restoration now, with a planned 2027 reopening.

The Hauntings

  • Tony Fedele: the building’s last live-in owner, still felt walking the third floor; investigators have caught an EVP shouting “GET OUT!” in the same spot.
  • Rose: a presence in the old baggage room who won’t speak to men; asked her name, a voice answered “the corner,” then a flat “NO!” when asked permission to enter.
  • The children: a boy nicknamed Zachary and a young girl, heard laughing and running on the empty upper floors.
  • The German-speaking soldier: a basement presence tied to WWII, once addressed a volunteer in German as if he didn’t know he’d died.
  • The passengers who never left: figures in period dress still glimpsed on the platforms, plus a black cat that appears and vanishes in the concourse.
