In Ghostly’s sixteenth episode, Pat and Rebecca explore Waverly Hills Sanatorium, one of America’s most haunted places. A school that became a tuberculosis hospital and then a geriatrics sanatorium before being abandoned for many years, Waverly Hills is now open for tours and many who go in skeptics, come out believers. Friend of Ghostly and listener Mike Morrissey was one of those people and in this episode, he tells his story.
Questions explored in this episode: What is the history of Waverly Hills? How many people died? What treatments were used? What are the different ghosts people claim to see? What experiences have people had? What is the death chute? Are there shadow people at Waverly? Is the kitchen haunted? What happens on the 4th floor of the sanatorium?
[6:00] Hear Pat’s interview with friend and listener Mike Morrissey to learn what happened to Mike when he visited Waverly Hills Sanatorium – not once but twice! His experiences changed him from a skeptic to a believer, and he tells us what he saw and how he felt while also sharing some of the history of this famous place.
[17:47] Listen to hear Pat give the history of Waverly Hills Sanatorium. He adds to Mike’s history to tell us of the original use of the building and how it became what it is today – a run-down hospital filled with spooky vibes and ghostly sightings.
[29:28] After the history, listen to Rebecca tell the ghost story, telling the story of a group of teenagers who venture a bit too far into Waverly Hills one night.
[32:03] Then listen to the Great Debate! Rebecca and Pat go through all the stories and evidence of sightings at Waverly, including those by Mike Morrissey, and debate what’s true and what’s just folklore. Don’t miss the haunted food debate! Listen to all sides and decide what you believe.
[57:00] Be sure to stay for the whole episode to hear the “Closing Arguments” to help you make your choice.
